Democracy is one of the guiding principles of the Union and as the Union is a democratic organisation, it means that students set the Union’s agenda.
Each year four full time student representatives, also known as sabbatical officers, take a break from their studies, even during their degree or at the end to run the students’ union. They are supported by a number of part time officers and representatives who take on their students’ union roles alongside their studies and by around 15 members of permanent staff.
In this section you can find out about how decisions are made in the Union and how you can help influence them. There are also details of how to contact your elected representatives, vote in elections and referenda and find out about ways that you can get more involved by standing as a candidate to be a representative yourself.
